Get Ready for LONDON 2010

By Don Peterson

I hope many of you are planning to go to LONDON 2010 -- this year’s big international show at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London, UK, May 8-15, 2010.  Most importantly, IPPS is planning a meeting and dinner.  Undoubtedly, there will also be innumerable casual get-togethers.  Many Philippine collectors have already volunteered their time to help make this a success.  In advance, a big thanks goes to Peter Harradine, who is arranging reasonable lodging and organizing the Sunday evening dinner; Nigel Gooding, for coordinating the purchase of first day admission tickets; Geoff Lewis, for setting up the IPPS meeting at the British Postal Museum and Archives; and Doug Lehmann for his graphics and notice in the website and Journal.  It looks like a great turn out.  Here is a summary of happenings:

Location

The Business Design Centre, at Islington, London, is easily reached via the London Underground (Tube).  It is within 5-minutes walking distance from Angel Station on the Northern Line.

First Day Tickets

Admission is free, except on the first day (May 8) at £10.  Tickets can be ordered in advance online from www.london2010.org.uk, but no later than April 19.  The cost online will be £10.50 each, plus £1 postage fee.  Nigel Gooding has offered to coordinate purchase of tickets for IPPS attendees at £10.  He will mail them to you.  Please contact Nigel ASAP at nigelgooding@hotmail.com, no later than March 1 to secure your ticket.  Without advance booking, tickets may be purchased at the door.

Nearby Lodging

Lodging near the Business Design Centre is expensive.  Local IPPS member, Peter Harradine, has arranged lodging at Krystals Hotel  for £60 single room (1 person) and £100 double room (2 persons) for IPPS members and friends.  Peter needs to know (1) arrival date, (2) number of people, and (3) number of rooms required.  This information must be provided to Peter before the end of February.    Peter will cover the deposits (please reimburse Peter upon arrival), which are non-refundable.  Payments must be made in cash upon arrival (no credit cards).  The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Archway Underground Station, which is 6 stops north of Angel Station on the Northern Line.  Bus #43 also connects Archway and Angel stops.  Contact Peter at phonecardpete@btinternet.com.

Sunday Night Dinner

All Philippine collectors and guests are invited to a casual dinner get-together near the Show, Sunday evening, May 9.  Please let Peter Harradine know how many are coming.  Contact Peter at phonecardpete@btinternet.com.  Peter will follow-up, via email, with the details.

IPPS Meeting

A meeting of Philippine collectors will be held Monday, May 10, at 9-11 AM, at the British Postal Museum and Archives, located at Freeling House, Phoenix Place, London WC1X ODL.  This is about a 10 minute walk from Faringdon Tube Station.  Maps and directions are available at the following website: http://postalheritage.org.uk/visiting/archive/#getting here.  The program will be: show and tell, getting to know everyone, and availability of new Philippine philatelic publications.  Sponsored by IPPS.  For more details, contact Geoff Lewis at glewis@custom-made.com.au.
