University of Saint Louis (USL), Tuguegarao, Cagayan - 50th Anniversary

The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao is a private Roman Catholic university in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan province, Philippines, administered by the CICM Missionaries of the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae (CICM).   It traces its roots from a diocesan secondary school named Cagayan Valley Atheneum established in 1938 by Msgr. Constant Jurgens, CICM, D.D., a Dutch by nationality, then Bishop of the Diocese of Tuguegarao and a CICM missionary and great educator. The CICM Fathers took over administration of the school in 1965.

The University is the Pilot Higher Education Institution in the implementation of projects for the advancement of teacher competencies in Philippines. It has a Soil and Testing Laboratory accredited by the Bureau of Research and Standards, and has Special Education program for speech and hearing impaired.

The Golden Jubilee Celebration of University of Saint Louis has officially started as declared by the University President, Fr. Eugene A. Arco, CICM, during the Opening Program at the Outdoor Stage yesterday, February 10, 2015, marking USL’s 50 years of excellence and service.

Before the program, a Eucharistic celebration was held with Most Reverend Sergio L. Utleg, Archbishop of Tuguegarao, as presider.  The Mass was also graced by different priests and sisters of CICM and other congregations  as well as guests from USL’s sister schools, alumni, stakeholders, local government officials, and other individuals considered as part of the Louisian community.

After the Mass, a welcome dinner with cultural show was held at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium for the said special guests.  As one Louisian family, everyone in the crowd cheered as Rev. Fr. Arco delivered his Welcome Remarks which included his initiation for all Louisians to vocalize their love for USL.

The Torch Lighting with which the number 50 was formed  by the torches of the athletes, officers and advisers who participated and the Flag Raising of the different flags in the University including the Golden Jubilee flag by members of the Administration and Deans of different departments symbolized the unity of the Louisian community.

The moment the flags were raised, Fr. Arco officially declared the opening of the Golden Jubilee followed by blast after blast from the five-minute fireworks display courtesy of USL’s Alumni Association.  After which, the 50 Million Pesos Endowment Fund Drive, which is the University’s project to raise funds for noble purposes, was launched.
