President Ferdinand E. Marcos Birth Centennial

Ferdinand Edralin Marcos (1917 – 1989).  President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He ruled as a dictator under Martial Law from 1972 to 1981.  The assassination of long time political rival Ninoy Aquino, Jr. led to the downfall of the Marcos regime and paved the way for Ninoy’s wife, Corazon Aquino, to become President of the Philippines.

Marcos was born September 11, 1917 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.  Died September 28, 1989 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  His body was brought back to the Philippines and temporarily laid in rest at Marcos Presidential Center in Batac, Ilocos Norte from 1993 – 2016.  In 2016, he was buried at Heroes Cemetery, Taguig, MetroManila.
