PHILIPPINE FUNGI - ISSUED DURING GREEN &
WILD EXPO 2019
Fungi are abundant in tropical biomes like those present in the
Philippines. They come in many shapes and sizes but are all
dependent on consuming dead and decaying matter.
Brittle gill fungi (Russula
luteotacta Rea).
Richly hued, easily identifiable by their red caps and their
white stalks.
Earthstar fungi (Geastrumsaccatum
Fr.)
Characterized by their
unique, star-like shape and are distributed widely across the world,
like the circular bracket fungi.
Bracket fungi. (Microporusvernicipes
(Berk.) Kuntze).
Which are banded with brown and white.
Parasol mushroom (Macrolepiotaprocera
(Scop.) Singer).
A common mushroom and is characterized by its thin stalks and white,
brown-mottled cap.
Fungi have many uses. Some are edible and some have provided
pharmaceutical benefits, but many others are inedible and even
poisonous.
